Experience this special landscape yourself with De Ploeg E-bike routes. You'll suddenly see the Groningen countryside from a completely different perspective. You can navigate through the landscape using the cycle junctions. A free app tells special stories along the way: photos, music and sound fragments and of course (art) historical background information bring together the now and the then.

Gems in the Westerkwartier

Did you know that the Westerkwartier has the oldest cultural landscape in Western Europe? These cycling and walking routes take you past the gems of the Westerkwartier. Along the way, you can enjoy the area’s fascinating history and varied landscape. Use the route booklet or the free app. The app features audio clips and 360-degree photos.

Children’s cycle routes in the province

Cycle a fun route of up to 15 kilometres and play a really exciting game. Can you solve the mystery and crack the code? If so, you’ll move on to the next level. Stuck for a moment? This musical city walk takes you on a journey through four centuries of music history. The route takes you to the most important places, both past and present, when it comes to music in Groningen. Voorland Groningen

Cycling past the Groningen mounds is like cycling through an open-air museum. Here you’ll find the most beautiful villages, little churches and spots to pause for a moment. The app takes you to all the sights and shares interesting facts about the wierden. This way, you’ll not only learn more about the wierden and the landscape, but also about the people who live there.

Audio tour through the city

The south of Groningen has always been a key location for interactions with the city’s friends and foes. This art trail takes you past various sites south of the ring road. These sites reveal something about the history of this special area, but are also very relevant today. At each location, you can listen to soundscapes, poems and music clips. This brings the past to life.

Lauwersmeer Circuit

One of the most beautiful walking and cycling routes in the Netherlands is the Lauwersmeer Loop. The walking app features the route, highlighting all the tourist, recreational and cultural highlights. The route can also be used offline. You can collect a stamp for your stamp card at each participating business. Once your card is full, you’ll receive a medal and a certificate. When you get your card stamped, you’ll also receive a free postcard.

Poetry trails

Create your own poetry route using the poetry hubs. The further you cycle, the more poetry you’ll hear. You can listen to a total of up to 300 different poems. The poems are by poets who took part in the ‘Dichters in de Prinsentuin festival. Let yourself be surprised by the poems that complement the surroundings.

Podwalk through Winsum

Centuries ago, monks and noblemen walked the streets of Winsum. In 2020, the village was named the most beautiful village in the Netherlands. On this ‘podwalk’, we’ll take you back to that era. During the walk, you’ll receive directions on which way to go to pass by various historic sites.
