Oude Kijk in 't Jatstraat 32 - A fixture for coffee lovers in the A-kwartier. Here it's all about coffee in its purest form. Filter, hario, kalita, aeropress and cold drip is brewed by Gerben and his team. With coffee comes something sweet and they make that here too. Think sturdy brownies, buttery soft biscuits or spicy banana bread fresh from their own kitchen. The pastries change regularly, but the style remains recognisable: homemade, honest and without fuss. Inside, it's cosy and a touch quirky, with Star Wars-lego on the shelf and a chalkboard outside that shows a new joke every week.

Verlengde Grachtstraat 1 - Mahalo is a vegan café you don't want to miss. Everything you get here is homemade, organic and completely plant-based. From a surprising lavender cake to spicy cardamon bun and classic carrot cake to warm piece of chocolate cake with a scoop of ice cream, be sure to ask about the changing special too.
