In the 19th century, lunches were served early and dinner only after 8pm. This made people crave something savoury in the afternoon. So did the Duchess of Bedford, who had tea with sweet and savoury snacks served around 4pm. This is how afternoon tea, or as we say: 'high tea', was born. And this tradition continues in Groningen too, with plenty of places in the city and province where you can enjoy such a dressed-up tea, from old council houses to manor houses. A fun and tasty way to get to know your surroundings better.
