Autumn holidays in Oldambt

Getting a breath of fresh air at the Kiekkaaste

For budding birdwatchers, it is fun to take a look at bird-watching hut de Kiekkaaste. Near Nieuwe Statenzijl is the well-known Kiekkaaste outside the dikes, where you can spot the most beautiful and sometimes rare bird species. You have a beautiful view and can also have a picnic there with the children. You can also close the hatches against the strong wind. A great nature excursion for the whole family.

Shopping in Winschoten

Winschoten is the second shopping city in the province of Groningen. The range of shops is very diverse. From the big, well-known chains to small trinket shops where you can buy the nicest gifts, clothes and accessories. The advantage is that you can easily park near the shops for free, and there are several places in the city where you can enjoy a coffee or an extensive lunch. Isn't a day of shopping fun?

't Speulparadies Beerta

't Speulparadies is a large enclosed playground, where children can have a great time. For example, you can play on the cableway, on the air cushion or go on an adventure on the adventure path. Also nice for parents: when the children are playing, you can enjoy a cup of coffee on the terrace. Besides a large playground, there is also an animal pasture with goats, rabbits, chickens and even alpacas. Plenty to do at 't Speulparadies.

Oostwold

In the autumn holidays, the weather is often still nice. The old farm Huninga's Heem with its beautiful winding tee is the place to spend the afternoon with children. Playing golf is fun for young and old on this 18-hole course. Ask grandpa and grandma to come along too. They will love the beautiful surroundings overlooking the Oldambtmeer.

Heiligerlee

At the edge of Heiligerlee you will find the monument of the dying Count Adolf of Nassau, sheltered by the Dutch Virgin and the Dutch Lion. Here, on 23 May 1568, the battle took place that, under the name 'Battle of Heiligerlee', became the beginning of the freedom struggle against Spanish rule and terror by the Duke of Alva. An Experience Route takes you across the former battlefield, which of course looks different now. You will come across all kinds of adventurous play tasks and experience equipment, such as wooden play equipment and natural play locations including pools with stepping stones. A nice route booklet is available at the Museum Slag bij Heiligerlee, which is also worth a visit.

Ennemaborg

During the national "Night of the Night" on 26 October, you can go on a special evening walk on Ennemaborg Estate in Midwolda accompanied by guides. Discover how dark it really is at night in the forest and experience nature in a unique way. Without artificial light, you will see the starry sky better, and with a bit of luck you will hear nocturnal animals. A wonderful, adventurous outing for young and old, in the middle of nature.

Cultural outings at the Klinker

At the Klinker, there are plenty of cultural outings for children this autumn holiday. For toddlers, there is the performance VO-LU-ME on 30 October. Theatre-makers Karlijn Hamer and Bram van Helden take children and their (grand)parents on an imaginative journey, in which playing and wonder are central. Also running is the children's film Victor Bat, a heartwarming story about a bat who is afraid of the dark but finds love and courage. Perfect for a cosy family outing!
