Barrel Wijnlokaal

Haddingestraat 27 - Barrel Wijnlokaal, named Wine Bar of the Year 2018, boasts a cosy establishment and a unique selection. Barrel has more than 1,200 wines on its menu and around 70 available by the glass every week, and the party is complete with its carefully selected cheeses and charcuterie. Good news for wine lovers: last year, Barrel expanded with an eponymous wine shop on Nieuwe Ebbingestraat. Now you can also enjoy your favourite bottle at home.

Mofongo’s Rooftop Wine Bar

Oude Boteringestraat 26 – As well as the restaurant, cocktail bar and distillery, Mr. Mofongo also boasts a lovely rooftop bar. This bar is entirely dedicated to both established classic and new wines, and is therefore a must-include in this list of wine bars. Here, you can simply order the most exceptional wines by the glass using a unique robotic tap system. Your wine experience is rounded off by the TV screen in the floor, which provides information about the origin of the wine you’ve chosen.

Bellami’s Bar à Manger

Grote Kromme Elleboog 13 – Feeling nostalgic for last summer in France? In Groningen, a little piece of France is tucked away in one of the city’s cosiest streets lined with restaurants and bars. Bellami’s Bar á Manger is a wine bar where you can also enjoy delicious bistro dishes, fine cheeses and charcuterie. And with a wide selection of wines by the glass and a carefully curated wine list, there’s always something to suit your taste.

Cappuvino

Vismarkt 1 – Cappuvino is a spot for both coffee and wine lovers in the heart of Groningen. With two floors and a beautiful roof terrace, it’s a lovely spot to relax at this prominent location on the Vismarkt. Here, they serve wines to suit the season – from refreshing and fruity on a sunny summer’s day to dark and full-bodied after a long, cold winter’s day. Bring on that Friday afternoon drink!

Vin Natuur

Oude Kijk in Het Jatstraat 66 – The name says it all. Vin Natuur is the place to go for delicious natural wines. Natural winemakers do not use any unnatural processes throughout the entire production process. And you can really taste the difference. It’s not just the flavours and aromas that are diverse. It’s also a lot more sustainable. As well as the usual wines, they also stock orange wine here. This is white wine, made using the red wine production process. Well worth a try.

Cloinq

Westersingel 20 – At Cloinq, they source their wines directly from small producers across Europe. They always have exceptional wines in their range. Wines that are hard to come by, or virtually impossible to find, in the Netherlands. So you’re always guaranteed a unique bottle of wine here. With a passion for quality wines, they often organise events centred, naturally, on wine. How about ‘wine, dine and disco’? Or surprising wine tastings.

Beans & Grapes

Folkingestraat 37 – This specialist wine and coffee shop is situated in one of Groningen’s most charming shopping streets. As well as authentic wines and coffee, Beans & Grapes offers something extra, as wine tastings and wine courses are organised in this cosy wine shop.
