Zuiderplantsoen

Good news for nature lovers in the city: Groningen has gained a gem. Not only can you enjoy the Noorderplantsoen, but now also the Zuiderplantsoen. Where traffic from the ring road once raced through the Sterrebos, there is now a sunken stretch of road that has been covered and transformed into a lively green park. The Zuiderplantsoen, a green sustainable connection between the Oosterpoort neighbourhood and the Hereweg neighbourhood, has been created on that spot.

Pioenpark

The Pioenpark is an atmospheric park with beautiful flowers. Everywhere you look it is green and surrounded by trees. You stroll past colourful peonies, neat lawns and two large ponds, ideal for laying out your picnic blanket, playing a game of tennis (there is also a free court), playing frisbee or sunbathing.

In the middle of the Korreweg neighbourhood lies the Molukkenplantsoen. The park is elongated and runs the entire width of the Indische buurt. For children, there is plenty to do, including a cableway and a large climbing tower. In the southern part is a large pond that you can walk around on winding paths. This part of the park also contains an outdoor fitness venue for the sporty and a playground for the little ones.

Oosterpark

Located in the Oosterpark district is the district's namesake, the Oosterpark. The park gained national fame because of the FC Groningen football stadium that used to be there. In 2007, the stadium was demolished and Oosterpark remained. Today, it is still a green walhalla in the district. There are several playgrounds, an experience garden and a basketball court.

Noorderplantsoen is located on the city's 17th-century fortifications. It is a lively and versatile park, loved by all city dwellers. You walk past many ponds and open lawns among the trees. Sportsmen will find plenty of space. Fancy a drink or lunch? Join us at the atmospheric Bij Zondag restaurant in the middle of the park. The perfect place to unwind. In summer, the park is a hotspot for music, theatre and food festivals.
