The sun's rays awaken the landscape and something special is happening in the greenery of Westerwolde. At Gasterij Natuurlijk Smeerling , work is in full swing on the herb and edible flower garden. From April onwards, here you can see how small plants grow into taste buds. Think fragrant herbs and colourful flowers that later find their way into tea, dishes and refined decorations. Spring has sprung and that means new life at petting zoos. Gentle lambs, curious calves and, above all, happily hopping around young goats that steal your heart right away. At places like Kinderboerderij Winschoten, Petting Farm 't Hoeske Veendam, Dierenweide Nieuwe Pekela and 't Speulparadies you can meet, pet and watch the young animals grow up.

Cycling through colourful Oldambt
Spring transforms Oldambt into a living painting. Yellow rapeseed fields and vast tulip fields colour the landscape - a typical sight for this region. The tulips bloom in the Johannes Kerkhovenpolder and around Beerta. Be quick as some of the heads will be removed in the coming weeks. Rapeseed fields can be seen around Nieuw-Scheemda, Oostwold and Midwolda - sometimes in the distance, but always impressive. Or head out through the polders, such as the Reiderwolderpolder, Carel Coenraadpolder and Johannes Kerkhovenpolder. Choose The Long Route or The Short Route.
Rosarium Winschoten: from rhododendron to rose
'Let your path pass roses'. An invitation that has applied to the Rosarium in Winschoten for decades. In the Stadspark it is already enjoyable: the rhododendrons are in full bloom and give the park a colourful spring atmosphere. Anyone returning later in June will see the rosarium at its peak. Then no fewer than 20,000 roses bloom here, divided into 320 different varieties. New varieties are added every year, so there is always something new to discover. The rosarium is also a place with a special story. Thanks to rose production in East Groningen as well as international rose awards, the park continues to renew itself.
