Traptrip routes
You don’t have to go far for a fun trip with the children. Hop on your bike and explore Groningen via the most beautiful cycle paths. Each of the three cycle trips starts from the centre of Groningen city and takes you out into the province. A fantastic experience to share with your children. You might travel a bit slower than usual, but that means you can really take the time to have a good look at your surroundings. Children are experts at this: they notice the tiniest details. Stop off at a lovely playground to stroke the goats or pick some flowers. It’s precisely these little moments that make a multi-day cycle tour so much fun for the whole family.
Traptrip 1 – Zoutkamp and Lauwersmeer Nature Park
Cycle from Groningen to Zoutkamp and back again in three days. During this cycling trip, you’ll spend a long time cycling alongside the waters of the Reitdiep. That means locks, ferries and pumping stations. Enjoy a picnic on one of the benches near the water and watch the boats sail by. And if the weather’s nice, you’ll also cycle past plenty of spots where you can take a refreshing dip. You can stay overnight at Camping de Rousant or the Robersum Natural Campsite, for example.
Traptrip 2 – Marum and de Onlanden
This cycle route takes you from Groningen to Marum. There’s plenty to see and do along the way. You’ll cycle through a genuine nature reserve. De Onlanden is a marshland area where you can spot lots of waterbirds. The Leekstermeer is also nearby, so do pop in for a swim or hire a boat. With this ‘TripTrap’ route, you can choose between a two- or three-day cycle trip. On the way back, stop off briefly at Landgoed Nienoord and your ‘TripTrap’ trip will be complete.
Traptrip 3 – Slochteren and 't Roegwold
Explore the east of Groningen on the third cycle tour. This is the shortest of the three. You’ll cycle past the Kropswolderbuitenpolder, with fantastic viewpoints. In Hoogezand, you’ll also pass a petting farm, where you’ll naturally want to stop for a moment to stroke the animals. On the second day, you’ll cycle mainly along the Dannemeer. You can also pop in to see the Fraeylemaborg or the Blotevoetenpark. You certainly won’t get bored on this cycling tour.
