Routes in Midden-Groningen for the whole family

8.8 km - This cycle route lets you enjoy climbing along the way. Start at Kolham forest, near Zwaneveldsgat. There are several climbing apparatuses in the forest, but of course you can also climb one of the trees. There is also swimming water and a raft. Then cycle into nature reserve 't Roegwold, where there is a watchtower you can climb. Continue to Goldbergweg and turn left. On Hoofdweg, turn left back into Kolham. At Ecomotion, when the terrace is open, you can climb and play in the large wooden play castle. Kolham's mill, the Entreprise, runs almost every weekend. You can climb here too, all the way to the top where de molenaar does his work. You can also buy an ice cream here.

10.7 km - In Groningen you don't have castles, you have borgen, and Slochteren has a very nice one: the Fraeylemaborg. In the borg you can do a treasure hunt and find out all about the former residents. The large park behind the borg is extra fun in summer because of the Blotevoetenpad. From the borg, cycle to the Groenedijk. There are three windmills here, all polder mills. After the third mill, turn left onto Ruitenweg, and turn left on Hoofdweg. If you then take the second road on the right, you come to the Baggerputten. This is a nature reserve that is home to as many as 20 butterfly species and 25 dragonfly species. From here, cycle back to the borg where Pancake Ship Volharding awaits you.

8 km - If you love birds, then this is an ideal trip. From Meerwijck beach, you cycle to the Kropswolderbuitenpolder. At the edge of the polder is a bird-watching hut (also suitable for wheelchairs). Using your binoculars, you can spot unusual birds such as the white-cheeked tern, black-necked grebes and even white-tailed eagles. This polder merges into the Westerbroeksemadepolder. Here you will find bird-watching cabin De Kiekhorn, which can only be reached on foot. From De Kiekhorn, you have a good view of water birds, waders and meadow birds. The great egret, yellow wagtail and hen harrier can also be spotted here. You cycle back the same way. Time for an ice cream at Beachclub Vifero.

15 km - Stap on the pedals and gather all the ingredients for a delicious Groningen pancake. On the pancake tour, you will make a round of different roadside stalls and discover where your food really comes from. At the Molen Mulder Pot you will learn how flour is ground and from Mrs Ei at De Ei Halte you will get fresh eggs. Want to make something special out of your pancake? Then you can also collect other goodies along the way, such as cheese and fruit. Route ready? Bake away! At the end of the route, all you have to do is bake the pancakes and eat them yourself.
