The Finest terraces
Kaap Steendam | Enjoying the waterfront
Steendam - On the edge of the Schildmeer you will find the hip and atmospheric restaurant Kaap Steendam. Here, everything is about enjoying good food, hospitality and the tranquillity of nature. The terrace overlooks the lake, and those who are lucky can watch a beautiful sunset. Chef Steffan Knoop: "The menu is very varied, from freshly fried sea bass fillet to poké bowl or a tasty oriental satay. Many local products are served, such as meat from butcher Angerman from Siddeburen or strawberries and fresh bread from Meinardi. Reactions are very positive, also because the dishes look so nice. And the taste is very good, even of the simple things. I regularly hear that people have never eaten such delicious chips before."

Kropswolde - You also have a great view over the water from paviljoen De Leine on the Zuidlaardermeer. "From here you can cycle beautiful routes or go boating" tell Carin Jorritsma and Luit Wieringa who run the extensive establishment. You can go there for lunch and dinner, but also just for a drink. Even if it rains you can sit there, as part of the terrace is covered. "For nature lovers, this is a wonderful place. The beaver feels completely at home here, there is even a lodge right opposite our pavilion!"

The atmospheric shop with quality coffee already has two locations, close to each other. You can enjoy lunch with fresh bread from Meijer bakery or high tea. The cosy terrace is on the outside of shopping centre De Hooge Meeren, making it the ideal place to relax after shopping.

Slochteren - It's a lovely restaurant for big and small: De Boerderij on the Fraeylemaborg estate. From the terrace you have a good view of the borg. Inside is an authentic atmosphere and the lunch dishes are superb. Tip: first walk through the woods behind the borg and then have a Groninger mustard soup with flammkuchen (and a special beer perhaps?) at De Boerderij.
