Zilvermeer
Right in the heart of Kardinge lies the Zilvermeer, also known to many as the Kardingerplas. A small beach has been created along the lake, which is a lovely spot to relax in the summer. Build sandcastles (or the Martinitoren) on the beach or take a refreshing dip in the water. Right in the middle of the beach stands a modern pavilion where you can enjoy some refreshments and snacks. It’s a lovely place to visit with your children, but also ideal for a cosy afternoon with your friends.

Klimcentrum Bjoeks
At Kardinge, one thing immediately catches the eye: a large orange tower rises above everything and everyone. This is the Excalibur climbing tower at klimcentrum Bjoeks. At 37 metres, the tower is the tallest freestanding climbing tower in Europe. A great challenge for the true climbing enthusiast. But beginners are also welcome at Bjoeks. The climbing centre offers introductory courses for those with little or no experience. Everyone can climb at their own level.

With the whole family
In Kardinge, you will find many fun options for an outing with the whole family. For example, young families can go wild in Ballorig's large indoor playground. Prefer something more challenging? Compete with each other on the race track and knock over all the pins on the bowling alley at Kartracing & Bowling Groningen. Or find out who is the Tiger Woods of the family on the golf course at Pitch & Putt Groningen. Who will you challenge?

Something a bit different
Fancy a sporty day, but want something a bit different for once? Kardinge is the place to go for that too. For example, go wakeboarding on Zilvermeer lake at Wakepark Groningen. Or show off your skills on a skateboard or rollerblades on a skate track at the foot of the Kardingebult. And if you feel like winter sports at 30 degrees and want to ski, you can go to Snow- and Outdoorlimits. Here you can be on the long skis all year round, but also enjoy fun outdoor activities such as archery.

Kardingebult
Right in the middle of the area lies a huge mound. At 30 metres above sea level, the Kardingebult is the highest point in the province of Groningen. Amidst all the greenery, various walking trails lead to the summit. At the top, you’ll find a viewing tower. From here, you have a magnificent view over the city and the surrounding countryside. Can you recognise all the city’s iconic buildings? When you’re ready to head back down, you can also choose to do so on a mountain bike via the specially designed trail – provided, of course, that you’ve brought your own mountain bike up with you.
Nature reserve
Much of Kardinge consists of nature. The Natuurgebied Kardinge lies between the neighbourhoods of Lewenborg and Beijum. Here, you can walk or cycle past grasslands, marshes and through woods. The nature reserve is teeming with life in every season and is home to all sorts of birds. In a fenced-off section of the reserve, you might come face to face with the herd of Scottish Highland cattle that live there. It’s exciting, but as long as you leave them alone, they’ll leave you alone too. The nature reserve is a lovely place to unwind for a while.

OERR Nature Playground
On the Koerspad, you’ll find the OERRR nature playground run by Natuurmonumenten. A place where children can really let off steam in nature. No rigid play equipment here, but a place where they can get some fresh air, explore and let their imaginations run wild. They can build huts, run about, play with sand, and there’s a water channel where children can pump water themselves. A place where all children are given the space to discover nature for themselves through play.

Plukbos
Right in the heart of Natuurgebied Kardinge , you’ll find a real ‘Plukbos’ (fruit-picking forest). It’s home to around 60 fruit and nut trees, as well as a number of small fields with wild fruit bushes. You’re welcome to pick your own bowl of fruit there. The grove is special: unlike many other pick-your-own gardens, the trees are given the space to grow as tall as possible and aren’t kept small. The best time to pick is in summer or early autumn. The volunteers who look after the grove will be happy to tell you all about it.

Sportcentrum Kardinge
Perhaps the best-known feature of Kardinge is its large sports centre. Name any sport and you’ll probably be able to do it here. The multi-purpose centre includes, amongst other things, a large subtropical swimming pool with a wave pool and a slide. There are also two ice rinks: a 400-metre track and an ice hockey rink. In the central area of the 400-metre track and outside, there are several tennis courts where you can perfect your backhand. There is also a dojo and several sports halls. There’s room for everyone.
