't Zielhoes

Noordpolderzijl's former sluiswachterswoning, located at the foot of the sea dyke, has long housed the nostalgic brown café 't Zielhoes. After a brisk walk along the dyke, a ramble across the salt marshes and mud flats or a visit to the Noordpolderzijl harbour, this is a good place to relax. On colder bleak days, you can sit inside. Old-fashioned cosiness by the warm pot-bellied stove with a bock beer, mulled wine or hot chocolate with whipped cream. Or go for a portion of bitterballen. Always good.

Exploring the Gnome Trail

A truly special walk starting from Activiteitencentrum Lauwersnest is the Gnome Trail. Yes, indeed, gnomes live in National Park Lauwersmeer. Only very young children can see them. There are traces of gnomes everywhere, such as tiny footprints in the sand, wheel tracks from a wheelbarrow, and flattened grass from an afternoon nap. Set off on your own or hire a rucksack from Lauwersnest. With red-painted cheeks and a pointed hat, the little ones can set off on their adventure.
