“Even as a six-year-old, I wanted to be a dentist, and I worked hard to achieve that. First in Iraq and then again in Groningen.” Jwan Al Hadad is originally from the Kurdish region in northern Iraq. Because her degree was not recognised – as it was from outside the European Union – she graduated as a dentist for the second time in Groningen. Jessica is the team leader; she is the glue that holds the practice together. “I take care of the scheduling, diaries and making sure everyone feels at home in the practice.”

The practice started with six treatment rooms; an additional room was later added, and there is still space on the premises should further expansion be required in the future. With seven dentists specialising in general dentistry, one dentist specialising in implantology and Jwan, who focuses primarily on orthodontics, the practice offers a full range of dental care. Patients have a great deal of trust in our dentists, says Jwan. “What would you do if it were your own mouth?” she often hears patients ask. “I see this as a sign of trust in our expertise and approach,” she says.

“Winsum is a wonderful place where everyone knows each other and greets one another in the street,” says Jwan. “We embody what Winsum is all about: welcoming and open,” adds Jessica. The patients at Winsum Dental Practice really feel that hospitality, as they regularly bring something along for Jwan, Jessica and their colleagues. “We sometimes receive a bouquet of flowers, Knol’s koek, cake and even prawns from a fisherman in Zoutkamp.” Whether you’re the postman delivering a parcel or a patient, customer or colleague. “Everyone feels welcome here.”
