Mark, who was born and raised in Winsum, has been working at Bustotaal for a year. He is responsible for the careful organisation and planning of all activities to ensure that the logistical process runs smoothly. Magne has lived in Winsum since his childhood and is actively involved in promoting the village through Promotie Winsum. Since the start of this year, he has been focusing mainly on sourcing raw materials for the parent company, Logispan. One of the products Mark and Magne are particularly proud of is their own-brand wood pellets, Pelfin. During the season, Bustotaal ships 200 full pallets a week throughout Europe. When you add in the customers who collect their orders, it’s clear that this involves a substantial logistics operation. “We sometimes jokingly refer to ourselves as Winsum’s best-kept secret,” says Mark.

Since Winsum was named the most beautiful village, Mark and Magne have been looking at their home town with fresh eyes. “It really is beautiful here,” remarks Mark. Magne adds that the vibrant business and community life offers many opportunities which they can capitalise on even more. “I’ve been cycling across the Boogbrug every day for years,” says Mark. “But since the award, I’ve seen people taking photos there and I do look at it differently now.” Magne, who lives on the Winsumerdiep, has also become more aware of the village’s history thanks to the regular explanations provided by village guides. “My neighbour’s house, for example, is built from the remains of the old brickworks. When you know more about these details, you automatically start to notice them more.”
Drive-in
Bustotaal is looking ahead to future growth. A new drive-in location will open in the second half of this year, where both companies and individuals can easily purchase and load all products.
