Stadspark

What’s on?

De Drafbaan event venue

The racecourse is perhaps the best-known feature of the Stadspark. Originally built as a horse racing track, it now frequently hosts other events. Thanks to its location right in the heart of Stadspark , the site has a special atmosphere. It’s no surprise that artists such as The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner and Sting have chosen this venue for their performances. There’s plenty on the programme again this summer. In July and August, you can come here for various concerts and festivals.

Celebrate the summer

Enjoying the lovely weather with your friends on a summer’s day. There are more than enough spots in the Stadspark where you can do just that. Choose a lovely spot by the water or enjoy a drink in the cooling shade of a large tree. Bring a picnic basket or a barbecue and celebrate the summer. Who will you be having a drink with in the park soon?

De Heemtuin

In the north-western corner of the Stadspark , you’ll find de Heemtuin. This botanical garden is home to many unusual plants and flowers. The garden is divided into different areas, such as a herb garden, a sandy plain and a wooded area. The garden’s natural character makes it a popular spot for birds: you can hear them singing from the trees. A stroll through the different areas is a great way to unwind. De Heemtuin is always open to the public.

Great for children

In the centre of the park is the place to be for animal lovers: the petting zoo. Whereas at other petting zoos the animals are often kept in cages, here most of the animals just walk around freely. The goats and cows walk among the visitors and you can pet them if you like. Next to the petting zoo, children can ride ponies or play in the large playground. Feel like a snack? Settle down on the terrace of Paviljoen 't Groene Hart. The pavilion houses the nature education centre, where you can learn about nature in the city and the Stadspark.

Not that you necessarily have to come from far away, even as a city dweller it's worth pitching your tent here. It is a nice place to be. The campsite is fully equipped. At the entrance to the site is the cosy Eethuys Stadspark is located. Here, even when not camping, you can always go for a nice bite to eat.

Art

During a walk in the Stadspark , you can enjoy not only nature but also art. Various remarkable works of art are scattered throughout the park. Examples include the Archangel Michael, the tribute to Mr Scholten, the displaced cube sections and the three wedges. Some of the works have been in the park since it opened in 1913, whilst others have been added much more recently. This creates a lovely combination of modern art and older works.

Nature

Aside from the major attractions, the park is home to a wealth of beautiful natural scenery. Rugged, unspoilt stretches of woodland where you can enjoy wonderful walks. Before you know it, you’ll suddenly find yourself face to face with one of the Scottish Highland cattle that live here. They roam freely in a fenced-off section of the park, which you can simply walk through. They won’t harm you in the slightest, but do keep a little distance. They’re often out grazing in one of the fields or lazing about in the shade. Calves are born regularly, so with a bit of luck you might even spot one of those little fluffy calves.

Disc golf

The Stadspark is also still a great place for sport. Various sports clubs are based in the park. But you can also try a very special sport here: disc golf. It’s similar to golf, but played with a Frisbee. The baskets you need to throw the Frisbee into are scattered throughout the park, so you’ll see all sorts of things as you make your way between the holes. Rent a set of Frisbees with your friends from the kiosk by the petting zoo and have a friendly competition.
