Hire a canoe in Groningen

Push off out over those lovely waters

Groningen has plenty of places for hiring a kayak for one, two, or three persons, so grab those paddles and off you go. The various waterways and lakes take you from the Paterswoldsemeer to the village of Winsum or even as far as the shallows. Bring a picnic basket, take in the Groningen countryside and enjoy the peace and quiet. This is Groningen.

Marenland | Winsum

Marenland in Winsum has it all: a campsite, a restaurant, and a marina. They also have canoes and kayaks for hire. After spending the afternoon on the water, conclude your day at the large outdoor café, or the restaurant with a delicious meal.

Jachthaven Zuidwesthoek | Haren

The Paterswoldsemeer lake is located on the border between the provinces of Groningen and Drenthe. The adjacent Zuidwesthoek marina has various types of canoes and kayaks for hire. This lake has lovely green and narrow passages and open places. After your exploratory expedition, enjoy a well-deserved break at one of the many outdoor cafés and restaurants by the water.

Water is all you see when you look around in Blauwestad. Hire a kayak at Bootverhuur Blauwestad and set out on the vast Oldambstermeer lake. Measuring about 800 hectares, this is one of the largest lakes in the province. Another lovely option is to take in the Blauwestad districts from the water, or to venture out even further into the province.

The Horse Farm | Garnwerd-Wierumerschouw

Although it may not be immediately clear from its name, The Horse Farm does have canoes and kayaks for hire. From here, paddle in the direction of the villages of Garnwerd or Sauwerd, or Groningen city. Be sure to bring a picnic basket which they are happy to provide to you. Are you up for a lovely day on the water?

Camping Zuiderhorn | Warffum

Sail the beautiful Groningen lakes or paddle all the way to the Wadden Sea. From the Zuiderhorn campsite, all directions are open for exploring. Push off from the campsite landing at the Warfummermaar canal in your canoe or kayak. The campsite has a room where visitors can make their own drinks before setting out, or spend some time afterwards.

Camping Maarlandhoeve | Uithuizen

The Maarlandhoeve campsite grounds include three ponds, one of which is designed as a canoe harbour. Don’t hesitate to take in more of this area. Explore the Marengebied area and canoe through the natural channels where sea water used to flow.

Ecomotion | Kolham

From Ecomotion, sail in any desired direction; they will even transport your canoe or kayak to various different places where you can start paddling. Among the options is a route to Slochteren, where extensive farmlands alternate with thickly-grown banks. Alternatively, set out into the direction of the village of Kolham and the ‘t Roegwold scenic area. Surrounded by water, the flora and fauna here are stunning.

Kanocentrum Wirdumerklap | Wirdum

The Kanocentrum Wirdumerklap canoe centre provides a guaranteed carefree day on the water in a canoe or sea kayak. Opt for a canoe trip to the town of Appingedam or the Schildmeer lake. Their sea kayaks have better opportunities for more challenging waters. A team of experienced instructors is happy to take you on an exploratory expedition.

Peddel en Pedaal | Westerwolde

Go to Peddel en Pedaal if you are up for a wonderful experience through the Westerwolde stream valleys. This bicycle and canoe route runs on and beside the water and takes in various special ‘exchange stations’ where you can swap your bicycle for a canoe, or vice versa. In spring, the banks of the brook transform into a huge sea of flowers, so we’ll be expecting you.

BeDRIJFNAT is located by the Herebrug and has canoes, boats and pedal boats for hire for an active round trip of the city, taking in harbours, houseboats, friendly outdoor cafés and historic buildings.
