A household name in Groningen and the surrounding area. You've probably already tasted their strawberries once. But did you know they also make asparagus, juices, jams and other goodies? Waddenslager | Butchery

Old-fashioned delicious free-range meat, as they call it. All the meat processed at Waddenslager comes from their own pigs and chickens or other local small-scale farmers where animal welfare is paramount. The butcher's shop also has an organic shop with dairy, fruit and vegetables and many more goodies. Think fresh eggs from free-range hens, chickens that can scratch around and have plenty of space to live their own chicken life. Or how about pasta and other cereals from the local farmer? Healthy, honest and super tasty.

Ol Diek | Fruit farm and country shop

Your attention is drawn to the vast apple, pear and cherry orchards. The finished products from these are sold in the adjacent country shop. This is full of other local produce: from green cabbage and Groninger cake to homemade jam. Throw all these local goodies loose in your basket or combine them in self-assembled packages. Also try an ice cream with fresh farm milk, straight from the cows on the farm.

Clay power | Cheese farmer

For the Groningen kaaskop. At Kleikracht in Winsum, they know how to make good old-fashioned cheese the old-fashioned way - organically. From the milk of their own cows, which graze in the spicy meadows next to the farm shop. Fancy a special cheese? Then try the honey clover, nettle or sambal cheese. You will definitely feast.

The Eemstuin | Garden/Farm

Close to the Wadden Sea is the Eemstuin, where pure vegetables grow. Farmers bring them to homes in and around Groningen. The vegetable parcels are pre-packaged with ultra-fresh, often forgotten vegetables. Because everything comes from their own garden, you eat with the seasons. That's another invitation to experiment with vegetables. You can also find the Eemstuin on Fridays at the Vismarkt in the city. In the home shop, you'll find a fresh supply of all kinds of vegetables straight from the land every day. The shop is always open and operates on a self-service basis.

De Luingahof

De Luingahof is an attractive orchard on the former borg grounds of the borg Luinga. Apples, pears, and plums have been grown here with care since 1982. Besides the orchard, you will find a cosy tearoom and a farm shop with a wide and varied range of fruit and vegetables and much more. Many of the products come from our own garden or the immediate surroundings.

At Van der Spek farm, everything is about fresh, local and grown with love. In the cosy shop you will find a wide range of fresh fruit and vegetables from the farm. Here you can get delicious apples and pears, for example, as well as delicious meat from the butcher. Should you drop by Van der Spek, be sure to try the handmade whipped truffles.

Landgoedboerderij Oosterheerdt

On the Oosterheerdt farm estate, you will find a cosy shop with meat from its own animals, regional products from local farmers and fun finds such as handmade jeans bags. All with a touch of Groningen. Here you can get beef, cheese, honey, coffee, fruit juices and much more. Every first Saturday of the month there is a cosy local produce market in the farmyard.

Feasting along the road in Groningen

Along the winding roads in the province, you will find plenty of stalls of farm shops full of goodies. Get fresh eggs, onions and honey at Wie-Len in Bedum and potatoes, eggs and colourful tulips in spring at Uuldruks in Siddeburen. Fancy something sweet? Then stop at Zomerhoning on Ter Borchlaan for honey straight from the beekeeper. Also fun: at Zuiderham farm in Aduard, you can tap your own raw milk and score fresh eggs. And don't forget the cosy stall in Kropswolde, with free-range eggs and potatoes.

Other places for gourmands

City & province of course have even more places where you can get fresh, honest and delicious food. Are you a cheese lover? Then visit the Waddenmax, Hoeve Zuidwending, De Zuivelmand or De Oude Streek. For a good piece of meat, go to De Buurackers, for instance, and for the best fruit and vegetables, go to Kruize or Dallinga. The choice is vast - what is your favourite?
