Today, the town hall is used for town council meetings, as a wedding venue and for special occasions. On the ground floor, many cattle have changed hands over the years. Indeed, until 1825, this room was used as a weighing house, the place where cattle were weighed. The town hall has a few special features. The statue of Lady Justice in the council chamber on the first floor, for instance. It is almost life-size and is depicted without the usual blindfold. The city arms of Appingedam can be found above the small gate in the front facade: a pelican feeding her young with her blood.
