Asparagus route 'Taste the white gold'
In Midden-Groningen, get your asparagus directly from the farmer. It doesn't get any fresher than that! Along the cycle route, there are not only asparagus growers, but also regional shops where you can find fresh eggs, the tastiest potatoes and free-range ham.
The asparagus route starts in Hoogezand. From there, you cycle to Kiel-Windeweer, Borgercompagnie and Tripscompagnie, all authentic peat-colonial villages. With grand but sometimes outdated farms along the canal and picturesque bridges, here you go back in time. Zuidbroek and Noordbroek also have beautiful farmhouses. You will find stalls everywhere along the road, and the route takes you past many local shops to complete your asparagus meal. Restaurant Hotel Faber and Hotel van der Valk have freshly cut asparagus from the region on the menu.

Together with the grower, you will go into the field and discover all about this special vegetable and why it is also called the 'white gold'. You might even get to pick an asparagus yourself! Description
You can start the route at Hotel Faber in Hoogezand, but also at other points along the route , e.g. Van der Valk in Zuidbroek.
The route largely follows the cycle junctions but deviates at 2 points. In Borgercompagnie you turn right towards cycle junction 36, just before you reach this junction you do not turn right but continue straight on to Tripscompagnie. On Achterdiep in Sappemeer make a slight detour via the Ei-Halte, then turn left towards Slochterstraat.
