With Manure and Fork route

|
(39.7 km)

The manure and fork cycle route (no, that's not a spelling error) takes you past all kinds of culinary hotspots in 40 kilometres. It takes some serious pedalling, but with all those beautiful views and friendly mound villages, this is certainly not a punishment.

That land by the coast – we can make good use of it. The people of Groningen have known this for centuries. First they built ‘wierden’ (raised settlements) and later they reclaimed the salt marshes; both to shape the land to their will. Residents still benefit from the fertile clay soil. A vegetable garden thrives here. Cycle through the centuries-old landscape and discover all sorts of tasty treats along the way. Have a coffee at the Verhildersum Estate or a cup of tea at de Theefabriek. Along the way, you can buy cheese, biscuits and mustard. Made here, of course – that goes without saying.
