Maalwerk is an independent, artisanal coffee roaster based in Delfzijl, specialising in roasting high-quality coffee. The coffee beans are hand-picked, hand-selected, hand-roasted and hand-packed. No mass-produced coffee or large stockpiles, but freshly roasted coffee that tastes and smells just as it should.
Pure craftsmanship
Owner Erik Poelstra has been a coffee roaster for 22 years. He spent 20 years working at a large coffee roasting company that just kept growing and growing. The craft and the flavour of the coffee became increasingly less important. That is why Erik decided in 2018 to make the stap to the small-scale operation of Maalwerk. Here, there is room for attention to detail, for high-quality coffee with a delicious, full-bodied flavour. The coffee is supplied to the hospitality sector in the region and is available to consumers via shops and their own website.
That’s why Delfzijl
Erik finds Delfzijl a lovely place to live peacefully, whilst still having all the shops and amenities close at hand. A major plus, of course, is the harbour and the beach. He therefore enjoys taking long walks along the dyke by the Dollard. “I think the most special spot in Delfzijl has to be the Biessumerbos. Here, you can really clear your head and enjoy the peace and quiet.”
