Swimming in Eems Delta
Need to cool off during the hot summer days? Or a refreshing dip in the colder months? There are a number of special swimming locations in Eems Delta. Lay down your towel at one of the coastal beaches or swim in a unique saltwater pool near Loppersum.
Delfzijl sea beach
Delfzijl – From the centre of Delfzijl, you can stroll straight onto the town’s beach. Here, you can take a dip in the Eems or have a right go in the sand. Build your own sandcastle or recreate the Eemshotel out of sand. Tip: if you build your sandcastle on a ‘wierde’, it’ll be safe even if the water rises.
Termunterzijl Beach
Termunterzijl – Just over the dyke at the Zeestrand family campsite in Termunterzijl, you’ll find a small beach on the Wadden Sea. There are all sorts of things to do from here. Take a refreshing dip in the sea, go kitesurfing or take a walk across the mudflats. From the beach, you can also stroll straight into the village centre to enjoy a delicious fish meal.
KP Zijl Saltwater Bath
Loppersum – Loppersum is home to a unique saltwater swimming pool. The Zoutwaterbad K.P. Zijl was dug by hand in 1933 and the water is pumped from a spring 112 metres deep. The water is heated naturally: by the sun. The salt water is good for the skin and particularly soothing. After a swim, you can enjoy the sun on the dykes or play a game of volleyball together on the playing field.
