The Zuidlaardermeer is perfect for a lovely day of sailing. Besides sailing with your own sailing boat, you can go to Zeilvereniging Zuidlaardermeer in Kropswolde or rent a boat from Zeilschool Zuidlaardermeer. At Paviljoen De Rietzoom , you can hire a motorboat. You can moor your own boat at the marinas of Allround Watersport and Siblu Camping Meerwijck in Kropswolde. Meerwijck's wide sandy beach has all kinds of play equipment, so it's definitely fun for children. For an ice cream, tapas or cocktail you can go to Bodega Beach, they are open every day and their terrace overlooks the beach.

Suppen and surf on the Schildmeer

The Schildmeer is located in nature reserve 't Roegwold. There are rugged shores where you can spot all kinds of birds and peat moors with rare plants. In Steendam, you can rent a sup, whisper boat or canoe from Boat Rental Schildmeer to explore the lake. On the lake is a surf beach with ample parking and plenty of room to get on your board. At Surfcenter, you will find everything you need as a surfer or supper. Or take a refreshing dip and then sunbathe on the fine beach. From Kaap Steendam , you have a beautiful view over the lake and see the sunset over the water.

Paddle away

If you want to discover Ae's Woudbloem nature reserve from the water, you can hire canoes at Ecomotion in Kolham. During your trip, you will see huge water lily pads, dragonflies, birds of all shapes and sizes and the endangered crabweed. From the canoe jetty in Woudbloem, you can also take to the water yourself with your sup.

You can discover the Veenkoloniën from Kiel-Windeweer. At Peddel en zo you can hire a canoe, kayak, boat or pedal boat and make a beautiful trip through this protected village. You can sail on to the Zuidlaardermeer or in the direction of Drenthe. The sailing and cycling route 'Varen door de Veenkoloniën' (27 km) starts from Peddel en zo . Here you can still see the peat-colonial layout of the village in all its glory, with historic bridges and many farms along the waterfront.

Discover 't Roegwold from the water

With whisper-prayer De Raaitkou (the Groningen word for bittern) you can discover the flora and fauna of 't Roegwold around Woudbloem. Nature photographer and guide Wilco van der Laan accompanies the excursions. "You will see beautiful aquatic plants such as kingcup, yellow lily, water lilies and swan flower along the way. But the diversity of birds is also amazing: warblers, sedge warbler, bluethroat, kingfisher, golden oriole and white-tailed eagle. There are therefore regular birdwatchers on board." The boating excursions from Woudbloem are usually on Saturdays and can be booked through Beleef de Woudbloem. The excursions are also suitable for people with mobility or disability problems.
