To the beach in Midden-Groningen
Almost nothing is nicer than playing with water or taking a refreshing dip on a sunny day. In the Schildmeer in Steendam, the Botjes Zwembaai in Zuidbroek, the Zuidlaardermeer in Kropswolde, the Grunostrand near Groningen, or in the swimming lake in Kolham you can have a good swim.
Schildmeer
The beach at the Schildmeer near Steendam is a large beach where a new jetty has just been built from which you can jump. The water is clean because it is a large lake, the second largest in Groningen. There is a beach pavilion where there are toilets and showers and you can get ice cream.
There are also many terraces around the Schildmeer. For instance, you have Kaap Steendam, with occasional live music. A little further on is the terrace of De Otter, a kind of wooden log cabin overlooking the lake. Another little further on sits Pavilion De Tijd Schildmeer. After a sunny day of swimming, sailing or playing, plop down here for a tasty meal, with a wide view of the Schildmeer. A cycle path along the beach takes you past all these terraces.
Kropswolde
Meerwijck beach near Kropswolde is also a fine beach. There is playground equipment and there is a real beach club, Vifero. They have a large terrace and a lounge terrace with a cocktail bar. Lounging here with your feet in the sand and a cocktail in your hand is great.
Hoogezand
Also nice: the play fountain in shopping centre the Hooge Meeren in Hoogezand. Located between the Kielzog and the Hema, it is a nice place for children to play. You can sit next to it and enjoy the sun on a bench. Or have a drink on the Kielzog's terrace. The fountain is beautifully landscaped, as is the greenery around it.
