Sikko Geertsema has owned the shop for over fifteen years and still enjoys everything in the shop every single day. Wooden toys are great fun. They feel warm and natural. And, of course, they’re very durable too, because whatever you buy here will last for years. In the shop, you’ll find well-known brands such as Brio trains or Kapla building blocks. Wooden board games such as chess and draughts are also available. Geertsema’s personal favourite is a calendar in the shape of a mushroom.
JoMilly Vintage | Colourful, cheerful and vintage-style
Kolham – In the Kolham windmill, Esmeralda Smith runs the little shop JoMilly. Here you’ll find retro furniture and accessories, as well as toys with a touch of nostalgia. Among other things, they sell spinning tops, magnets, poetry cards and bird whistles. Preferably toys that encourage children to play independently, to go outside and discover things. Rear-view glasses, for example, so you can play at being a spy. Or a slingshot – that’s just a bit more fun than sitting in front of a screen. For school, we have retro fruit boxes, lunch boxes and cool bags. Colourful, cheerful and vintage-style, just like the rest of the shop.

Hoogezand – Crafting is trendy, even among children. Suzanne Haks capitalises on this in her craft shop in the De Hooge Meeren shopping centre with craft kits for beginners and those with a bit more experience. But the little ones are also welcome here. For example, they have cardboard animals where you can embroider the body. Slightly older children can embroider trendy animals such as a sloth, a flamingo, a horse or a toucan onto sturdy canvas. Or make something fun with wool and cotton.

Hoogezand – What do you do if you’d like to give your children toys but don’t have enough money to buy them? In that case, you can turn to the Amalia Toy Bank in Hoogezand. There was already a food bank and a clothing bank, but toys are just as important for a child. That’s why they set up a toy bank in Hoogezand over six years ago. Every quarter, parents can choose two toys and a book per child. For the children, it’s just like a normal toy shop where they’re allowed to pick something out.
