On 29, 30 and 31 May 2026, wierden and heritage will be sung and played for the 17th time. Whether you like good music, expressive theatre, special stories or local art, Terug naar het begin brings you more. It is a unique weekend in a unique landscape. Vast, local and yet belonging to us all.

Come along on a journey of discovery

During Terug naar het begin you will discover excellent artists in churches full of stories. These are encounters you will never forget. As a visitor, you string together your own programme of intimate performances on a bicycle. Whichever route you choose, in Eems Delta you see something that you hardly find anywhere anymore: space. In that space, there is room for everyone who wants to discover what is already there.

Discover special artists at special locations

Experience an intimate, acoustic concert by Jeangu Macrooy, discover the new work of Kurdish producer, singer and songwriter NAAZ and stap De Kunstkerk by Bowie Redman Barbiers: an inspiration service and performance in one. Enjoy the hushed sounds of Remy van Kesteren (harp) and Cape Sleep (vocals), or be touched to the heart by the poignant songs of Australian Sarah Blasko. And this is just the beginning, because there is much more to see.

Experience Terug naar het begin from the water

Experience TNHB in a unique way: by boat! In the heart of the festival, a beautiful tour boat is ready to take you on a journey through the mound landscape to the historic town of Appingedam. Along the way, you’ll enjoy surprising encounters with performers and artists at unique locations. At the end of the day, the boat will take you back to Oosterwijtwerd. An unforgettable festival experience!

NEW: Breakfast tickets - Get a musical start to your festival day!

With the ZING ONTBIJT, the King Sisters invite you to an unusual musical start to the day at the Festival Heart. As the world wakes up, oranges are squeezed and the breakfast table is set, voices are warmed up to start the day with courage.

Please note: this programme component includes breakfast and you will need an extra ticket for this.

The festival centre is located in the middle of the mound landscape, yet TNHB makes the festival easily accessible for everyone - even if you don't have a car! Travel by train from Groningen to Loppersum and stap there to the shuttle bus to the Festival Heart in Oosterwijtwerd. The shuttle bus runs back and forth between set times throughout the weekend.

Extra tip: You can easily hire a bike via the ticket shop, and it will be waiting for you at the festival centre on arrival.
