Algemene info band: 

From psychedelic krautrock to free-jazz freak-outs to funk-infused downtempo jams, brown spiritsendeavors to smash every show as if it was their last. 

Hailing from Melbourne (AUS) the band maintains a strict DIY recording ethic (i.e. the band records and mixes its music itself!) and has come with a handful of global releases. The two most recent albums were on UK’s acclaimed Soul Jazz Records. This makes Brown Spirits the first ever Australian act to sign with this label. 

It gets strong support from Australian community radio but also from abroad, for instance from Mojo UK, Uncut Magazine, KEXP and BBC Radio. As a result of this recognition the band has shared stage with some of their favourite international acts such as Kikagaku Moyo (Japan), Earthless (USA), Frankie and the Witchfingers (USA), Minami Deutsch (Japan) and Yawning Man (USA). 

Recently brown spirits performed at the Meredith Music Festival (check YouTube-links) and Melbourne International Jazz Festival.

Following their 2023 album 'Solitary Transmissions', a string of sold out singles and successful live shows, brown spirits has returned with a new full length release 'Cosmic Seeds'. This album has been recorded and mixed by the band itself in the DIY tradition of 1960s-1970s. Whilst reflecting strong democratic musicality, the trio branch even further out from their trademark motorik leanings, and venture deeper into funk and jazz flavored territories with moog-driven melodies and beyond.
