Taco Yutong Huo about his work
For me, collapse has already happened. My painting begins after it. I paint what remains alive, what has not stopped operating. The ruins are their mother. They may once have been monuments, bodies, symbols, or landscapes; they may also be nothing more than shells left behind after repeated use. Meaning has loosened, but it has not completely disappeared. It still clings to surfaces, colours, pressure, and structure, like an illusion accepted for too long.
I am drawn to a world where illusion is fully accepted as nature, and where lies begin to take on form. Within the painting, instinct, memory, material, and authority pull at one another, yet they no longer return to a clear origin. They become ghosts within the painting, and I become its attendant. I no longer control the image. I only witness how it generates itself from its own remains.
