Fort Oudeschans | the smallest fortified village
Oudeschans - In 1593, during the Eighty Years' War, the smallest fortified village was created: Oudeschans. More than 200 years later, in 1814, Oudeschans was dissolved as a fortress. But little has changed in the village's structure. Go back in time and walk the marked route over the former ramparts, along the old Westerwoldse Aa and through the picturesque fortified village. Sellingen- In the medieval village of Sellingen sits an old Stelmakery, where wagon sets and wooden tools used to be made for the village's farmers. Today, the building, one of the oldest (still existing) buildings in the village, is set up as an exhibition space. Bourtange - When you arrive in Bourtange, you are automatically led to de fort. One of Westerwolde's greatest historical sites. And you can visit not one but several museums and exhibitions here. Everywhere you take an impressive journey through time. In Terra Mora, for instance, you will discover the relationship between the marsh and de fort, in Museum De Baracquen old utensils are on display and you can take a look in an old captain's house.
